Sonora Bohaychuk
(She/Her/Hers)
Sonora completed her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Alberta. Before Lumos, she worked as a teacher in elementary and high school settings, as a school counsellor, and as a mental health therapist for people who experienced sexual violence. As a counsellor, Sonora is dedicated to ensuring her clients feel wholly accepted and met with unconditional positive regard and support. There is no experience too dark, no story too heavy, and no emotion too big. She commits to entering each session with the utmost care, providing a calm environment with warmth, encouragement, and humour when appropriate. While Sonora works alongside clients to gently question and challenge any beliefs that are threatening their authenticity and empowerment, she recognizes that they are the experts of their own lives and experiences.
Sonora embraces an integrated approach and uses several modalities to ensure that every client’s therapeutic experience feels authentic and purposeful. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, and attachment theory. But beyond that Sonora brings her full self to each session to foster genuine connection and provide undivided attentiveness. She endeavours to operate from an anti-oppressive and intersectional lens in all that she does, and recognizes the complex ways that systems of oppression contribute to mental health difficulties. Sonora is available at the Edmonton location on Wednesdays, Fridays, and one Saturday a month, and in Fort Saskatchewan on Tuesdays.

Registered Clinical Social Worker
As a Registered Clinical Social Worker, I believe that healing begins with relationships—those we nurture with ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities. My practice is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and a deep understanding of the complex systems we navigate. I embrace a holistic approach to mental health, recognizing the interconnectedness of our experiences and the diverse influences that shape our well-being. Life is a tapestry of experiences—messy, beautiful, difficult, and everything in between. My goal is to be a steady presence for my clients during their heaviest moments, serving as a light in the darkness.
With over a decade of experience in diverse settings—including schools, housing and addiction services, mental health prevention, crisis intervention, and victim support—I have gained a deep understanding of the challenges individuals encounter throughout their lives. I work with clients facing a variety of issues, such as anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, stress, and relationship difficulties. I prioritize authenticity, empathy, and a judgment-free environment, fostering genuine connections, as I believe healing is rooted in compassion and honest reflection.
I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques tailored to individual needs, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), EFT (Emotion-Focused Therapy), and SBT (Strength-Based Therapy). Additionally, I am a certified facilitator for programs like the Connect Parent Program (an attachment-based approach), the Peacemaking Circle Program (focused on restorative justice), and the Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) protocol.
I offer afternoon and evening sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in Edmonton, as well as Wednesdays in Fort Saskatchewan or Camrose. If you feel I might be a good fit for you, I would love to connect and walk alongside you during this time in your life.
